Questions we get asked a lot

How much does a website cost?

A five-page site is $3,400, all in. The ten-page version, with a photo day and your Google listing set up, is $5,900. Rebuilding an existing site starts at $1,800. The care plan is $89 a month if you want it, and you can cancel any time. Anything bigger gets a flat quote in writing before we start. We don't bill by the hour, so the number you approve is the number you pay. Two rounds of changes are included; a third is $150 an hour and we'll tell you the cost before we start it. A page means one we write for you. The contact, thank-you, accessibility and 404 pages come with every build and don't count towards your total.

How does payment work?

Half up front, half before we launch. The deposit books your two weeks with us and we stop taking other work for them, which is why we ask for it up front and why it's non-refundable. Everything else is written down in plain English on our How We Work page, and you can read all of it before you pay us anything: what's included, how many rounds of changes, what happens if the content runs late, and how either of us can walk away.

How long does it take?

Fourteen working days from the day we've got your content: text, photos and logins. Most of that is us building. You're involved for about two hours in total. If we miss it, you get $200 off without having to ask, and the clock stops any time we're waiting on you.

I already have a website. Can you fix it instead of starting over?

Often, yes. That's the Website Rescue service, from $1,800, and we'll tell you on the free call which is better value. If your site is basically fine and just slow, that's a $450 job rather than a rebuild, and we'll say so.

Do I actually own the site?

Yes. The domain, the content, the photos and the code, all in your name from day one. If you ever want to leave you take the lot, and we'll help you move it. It's worth asking about ownership wherever you end up. A lot of people only find out they don't own their site when they try to move it.

Can I change things myself later?

Yes, and this is the bit most people are surprised by. Your hours, prices, services, photos and text all live in a simple editor you can use from your phone. You won't need to touch any code or ring us about a typo. We'll walk you through it after launch and you keep access for good.

What do you need from me?

About two hours all in: a 20-minute call at the start, whatever photos you've already got, your logo if you have one, and access to your domain. If you haven't got photos, or you don't know what to write, that's what the Words & Photos Day is for.

What don't you do?

We don't build online stores, booking systems or membership sites, we don't take on monthly SEO retainers, and we don't design logos. If you need one of those we'll say so on the first call and point you at someone who does it properly. That's a much better outcome for you than us learning on your budget.

Why not just use Wix, Squarespace or a $99 template?

Sometimes you should, and we'll say so if that's the honest answer for your situation. Those tools are genuinely good now. What you'd be paying us for is the part they leave to you: working out what goes on the page and in what order, writing it so the phone rings, real photos of your own work, a site that loads in under a second, and your Google listing set up properly. The template is the easy part.

Ready for a site that actually brings in work?

Free 20-minute look at your current site. No pitch, no obligation. If we're not the right fit we'll say so and point you somewhere better.
