How we work
The money side, in plain English and out in the open, so you know how all of it works before you pay us anything.
1.One price, agreed before anything starts
Every job is quoted flat, in writing, before we begin. We don't bill by the hour, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Half up front, half before we launch. The deposit books your two weeks with us, and we stop taking other work for those weeks. That is why we ask for it first, and why it is non-refundable.
2.What counts as a page
A page is one we write and design for you: your home page, an about page, a service page, that sort of thing. Core covers five of them, Plus covers ten.
The rest comes with every build and doesn't count against your total. That's the contact and thank-you pages, your accessibility statement, the service-area list and the 404. You'll end up with more addresses on the site than pages you paid for, and that's normal.
3.Two rounds of changes are included
You get two full rounds of changes on the design and the copy. Almost everyone is happy well inside that.
If you want more you can have more. It's $150 an hour, and we'll tell you what any change costs before we start it so you can decide either way.
4.The 14-day promise, and what stops the clock
You're live within 14 working days of us having your content and approvals. Miss it and you get $200 off, automatically, without having to ask us for it.
The clock only runs while the work is actually with us. Any time we're waiting on you for content, feedback or a login, it stops. That's the only way a deadline like this is fair to either of us.
5.If the content takes longer, tell us
Most websites get stuck right here. Photos and writing take longer to pull together than anyone expects, and that is normal.
If we still haven't got your content 21 days after the kickoff call, we'll pause and pick it back up whenever you're ready. Restarting costs $400, because by then your two weeks will have gone to someone else. We'll check in a couple of times before it comes to that, and if the writing is the bit you're stuck on, just tell us — that's what the Words & Photos Day is for.
6.You own everything, from day one
The domain, the content, the photos and the code are yours, in your name, from the day we start. Nothing sits in our account waiting to be handed over at the end.
If you ever want to leave, you take the lot and we'll help you move it. It's worth asking about ownership wherever you end up. A lot of people only find out they don't own their site when they try to move it.
7.The care plan has no contract
The $89 a month plan covers hosting, backups and up to 30 minutes of edits. Minutes you don't use don't roll into the next month.
It's month to month. Cancel whenever you like, no fee and no notice period, and your site carries on working. You'd just be hosting it yourself.
8.Either of us can walk away
If this turns out not to be a fit, either of us can stop. You keep everything done up to that point, and we keep the deposit and anything already invoiced.
We'd rather put that in writing now than have either of us feel stuck later on. If it stops working, saying so early is better for both of us than dragging it out.
This is a summary. You'll get the full contract to sign before any money changes hands, and it says the same things in the same order. If any of it is unclear, that's our fault, not yours — ask on the call and we'll explain it.
